Branded Interiors - How to Put the Brand into the Building

Branded Interiors - How to Put the Brand into the Building
If you are looking for ways to incorporate your brand into your space here is an idea.

This is Lemonpeel Studio's blog. She is a photographer. I was looking at her site and noticed that her border is in the shape of lemons. Not overt lemons (because they are reduced so small), just general shape lemons. As I looked I thought of how cool that would be as a wallpaper in her interior. Take the general shape and repeat it for the wall. This could be done DIY in a couple of ways but that is another post.

IDEA: from wall post to wall paper

Candy Window Display - Grinch all in candy

close up of the Grinch's face..... can you tell what some of those candies are?

For about 6 years every January I would start attending meetings for Provo City's (Utah) Candy Window Displays. Even though we didn't but up the candy displays until November we started work early. There was an incredible amount of time in the conception, design and then construction of them. And is was all volunteer work. The city paid for the supplies but every little candy glued on was done for the love of it. And I did love doing it. I'm a little sick that way. My husband didn't quite feel the same way about it. I moved a couple of years ago and I heard this year that they didn't do the windows. Sad.

Here is one of the years I did - 2005. The theme was Christmas books. I choose How the Grinch Stole Christmas and the moment of the Grinch's change of heart. I won third place that year.

All the surfaces in the display are covered in candy and
it was shown in a storefront in town for a couple of months.

Decorating for Christmas - My Home

Over the years I have evolved how I decorate for Christmas and this is what I am doing now. I have a low tolerance for lots of things all over the house. So, I pack my decorating into smaller areas. I have a couple areas in the house and this is one of them. Also, when we moved I don't know what exactly happened to our decorations so I have had to buy new ones. So for one room I have picked a color palette that I can add to year after year (usually in after Christmas sales), silver, gold and green. The biggest thing missing is artwork, which is sort of funny since I am an artist who paints paintings. shannonsportfolio.com I took down our daily artwork and didn't have anything I wanted in its place. I'll work on that.

table lamps at the end of each cabinet drapped with beaded garland

nativity that I got this year from Primitive Peddler, it reminds me of one my grandmother had

close up of the decorations and tree (I didn't put lights on this go round, next year)

bowl is from Hobby Lobby which I love

- university surplus sale= chair $5 painted Ralph Lauren silver (can't remember which one)
- Hobby Lobby= bowl, pillow, candles, crystal ornaments
- Primitive Peddler= tree, nativity, icicle beads
- lamp shade, light base= Target

I waited way too long to decorate this year so I am committing to start earlier next year.

Recycled Ruins - Dining Room Buffet

Several years ago I took second hand furniture and recycled it to sell on consignment in Park City Utah. My "Recycled Ruins" pieces were unique and I had fun being creative with them. I don't do the consignment work anymore, just do it for me now. So I thought I'd share a recent project.

Here is a buffet I picked up at the local Cameron Antiques Mall for $150. It was in great shape, until the new puppy (Lab) of ours decided to chew up the corners of a couple of the drawers. Ugh! (Does anyone want a Chocolate Lab?) Anyway, here is the before, after, and in place photos.

Before - Buffet
I thought is was nice but too dark for the room.

After - buffet
Cool off white paint with Raw Umber glazing

And in the Dining Room

Anyone can do this sort of project. Hope this inspires you.

Thanksgiving - Bakalva

A new treat that has entered our house. My 13 year old son needed to do a food from the country of Greece for a school project. He decided Baklava. I had never made it but we ventured. Here is our (mostly his work, I supervised and cut) attempt, which we found to be tasty indeed. Yesterday he made some for Thanksgiving, something new, and then we forgot the stuffing. I know how can you forget stuffing on Thanksgiving?!!

Walls - Vinyl Lettering

The Boyfriend and I love the movie Princess Bride. We've also been married for 27 years. So, this spring I had Quoted Living do a vinyl custom quote from that movie that totally fits us. I put it in our bedroom. I know, everyone says not to paint red in a bedroom. But we absolutely love it. (Did 2 walls a cool red and 2 walls a warm brown) Not one regret!
